In the last 24 hours the Patriots have made a multitude of free agent moves, while these deals go largely unnoticed they are the types of depth building trades that have helped make the Patriots the Patriots. Think about it, in the wake of starting center David Andrews, obviously a very important player, heading to the IR in the last 24 hours the Patriots have acquired OL Korey Cunningham from the Arizona Cardinals, OL Jermaine Eluemunor from the Baltimore Ravens, and OL Russell Bodine from the Bills. On top of that they have traded Duke Dawson, a guy that would not have seen the field and a 7th round pick for a 6th rounder. In other words they trade for depth along the OL and then flipped other pieces to recoup the draft picks they gave up for those pieces. It’s like a never ending carousel of building depth using late round draft picks and then flipping disposable pieces to get back those same draft picks. Upgrade here, upgrade there, add here, add there and then ship guys on the roster bubble for draft picks. It’s not rocket science when you think about it but the Patriots are aggressive and as we all know they are better at developing players than other teams so while that “Depth” guy may have been on your bubble he may start and excel for New England. It’s incredible, and while other teams are scrambling to replace guys in October the Patriots have already built depth and experience at key positions. While many hate them you have to tip your hat.
2018 PETA Most Beautiful Vegan Benedict Cumberbatch who plays Dr. Strange in the Avengers movies and has performed in film, television, theatre and radio has made no secret of the fact he follows a vegan diet. Additionally he admitted earlier this year that he relied on the goodness of fruits and veggies to help him get into shape for Infinity War. It's not just his food choices that are compassionate as the 41-year-old actor refused to wear leather during his shoot with British GQ magazine - choosing instead to sport vegan boots and a suit made of "future wool." Cumberbatch has received numerous accolades, including the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor for Frankenstein and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for Sherlock. His performance in The Imitation Game earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor. In 2014 Time magazine included him in its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world, and in 2015 he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
For those of you who don’t live on the South Side of Chicago you may not have realized it but Yoán Moncada is absolutely breaking out. He has flown under the radar to a degree and quietly had an incredible season and been one of the best third baseman in the league. To be honest with you I think a lot of people wrote him off, not surprisingly as he has been talked about since he was a teenager and these days if you don’t perform immediately people move on. Not everyone is Ronald Acuna or Juan Soto and many players take longer to develop than others. Moncada always had the skillset but he struggled with strikeouts, an issue that can be resolved with experience and film work. It seems that Moncada is maturing as a hitter as he is only striking out 27.8% of the time as compared to 33.4% of the time in 2018, still a high % but better nonetheless. What does that result in? It results in a higher contact rate and an uptick in average all of which has happened and has translated into more power. Playing for a losing/rebuilding team will never get you much publicity but at the detriment of Red Sox fans all over the world that salivated over Moncada for years he has firmly entered his name into the mix of future stars. Let’s take a look at some numbers. Entering today Moncada is hitting .300 with 22HR 63RBI a .352OBP and is slugging .537. While the stolen bases (7) are low for a guy possessing his speed these stats are over 395 ABs. Project that over roughly 600+ Abs and we are talking monster numbers for a 24 year old. In fact he currently has a 4.2 WAR which ranks top 6 for guys under 25 years old, ahead of guys like Pete Alonso, Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, and Gleybar Torres and ranks him 5th overall for Third Baseman. Projected over 600 plate appearances Moncada’s WAR would rank top 10 in the entire league. Pretty crazy right? As long as he keeps pushing the strikeout rate down there is no reason he won’t continue to approve, Moncada has arrived.
Yahoo! Japan has banned all ivory sales on its platforms across Japan beginning November 1, 2019 taking a huge step in the direction of banning ivory sales across the entire country. I did not know this, but apparently there are 16,000 registered ivory retailers, manufacturers, and wholesalers that use the platform to distribute ivory throughout Japan. This ban will significantly decrease access to ivory and hopefully push the government to ban the sale outright as well as energize animal cruelty groups such as the HIS (Humane Society International) who have pushed for a full ban for years. Between 2011 and 2016 there were 2 tons of ivory seized by Chinese authorities. Short term this is a huge step but the bigger question is as retailers look for alternatives to Yahoo! How will authorities and other companies as well as groups help combat the trade? You know as well as I do that people will be scrambling for alternatives sources of sale and while a huge step hopefully it’s not just a Band-Aid.
Tia is ranked in the top 50 female surfers in the world by the World Surf League and won the first place Gold medal at the International Surfing Association (ISA) Open Women's World Surfing Championship 2015 in Popoyo, Nicaragua and successfully defended the title by winning the 2016 edition in Playa Jacó, Costa Rica. Tia was raised in a vegetarian household but made the choice to go vegan on her own after watching films such as Glass Walls and reading The China Stud. Tia travels the world competing but always stays true to herself and her vegan lifestyle. She was quoted in Men’s Journal as saying “I feel healthier on a clean, whole foods diet that is very simple — especially during competition. And since a plant-based diet is less calorically dense than other diets, I need to make sure I’m eating enough food so I up my portions a lot. I think of veggies as nutrition and water, not a food where I can get energy so I don’t even count veggies when I’m counting calories and nutrition. For energy, I go to potatoes, whole grains, and starchy veggies. I’m obsessed with carrots and sweet potatoes.”
Her breakthrough role was the title role in Juno for which she received nominations for an Academy Award, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress and won the Independent Spirit Award, an MTV Movie Award and a Teen Choice Award. Page is a longtime vegan who’s outspoken about her reasons for practicing a vegan lifestyle. She’s a firm believer in social justice and equality for all animals and was named the sexiest vegan in 2014 by PETA. One of her most notable phrases is “Why are vegans made fun of while the inhumane factory farming process regards animals and the natural world merely as commodities to be exploited for profit?”
First off let’s lay out the facts. The Yankees are having one of the most prolific home run hitting months ever; in fact numbers-wise it might be the most prolific ever. In 26 games this month the Yankees have crushed 64 home runs, surpassing the MLB record held by the 1987 Orioles and the 1999 Mariners. The Yankees have hit 244 homers through 133 games this season well surpassing their pace last year and in August alone the Yankees bats have averaged well over two homers a game (2.44). On the year 11 guys have double digit home runs, 7 of which have over 15 long balls. This is with Giancarlo Stanton missing the majority of the year, Voit and Encarnacion being hurt, Hicks being hurt, Bird being hurt, and Andujar missing basically the entire season. It is flat out crazy what the Yankees are doing up and down the lineup. What happens though when they run into a team that can neutralize the long ball? Will they have enough situational hitting in the playoffs to overcome a pitching staff that doesn’t allow home runs? This team is like the hot shooting college basketball team that lives and dies by the 3 and has that one off game that sends them home in March. The Yankees don’t have the pitching to overcome a long series against a deep starting rotation so while they are on an epic run they will need contributions elsewhere to make a deep October run. It’s pretty impressive to watch though, I literally think I can slot into the 7 hole tomorrow and hit 2 jacks.
A long-time vegan and raw food advocate Harrelson has been nominated for an Academy Award three times and for his role in Cheers he earned five Emmy Award nominations and won one in 1989. Harrelson is an outspoken environmentalist, passionate hemp activist and has teamed up with PETA on projects such as securing the release of research chimpanzees. He is also heavily invested in company that makes vegan products. Harrelson has been a Vegan since his early twenties when giving up dairy led to curing his lactose intolerance in a matter of days.
Every fall as the leaves begin to fall and the temperatures begin to cool another sign of the changing season begins to emerge and that is the retail explosion of pumpkin flavored products. It doesn’t matter where you go, how you get there, if you want to or not but pumpkin is jammed in your face and shoved down your throat. Pumpkin coffee, pumpkin spice, pumpkin latte, pumpkin candles, pumpkin cleaning supplies, pumpkin chocolate, you can even buy pumpkin spice SPAM which literally just made me throw up a little in my mouth…it doesn’t matter what you buy there is a pumpkin or pumpkin spice version of it. What is pumpkin spice anyways? I guess that is beside the point but now that our retailers and grocers are offering more and more vegan products by the day I’m afraid the pumpkin spice trend is going to be hitting the vegan market hard and fast. I already read this morning that Halo top just released a Pumpkin Pie vegan ice cream and yes I am going to buy it and eat the entire thing but I am already preparing for the all pumpkin all everything trend that will be hitting the vegan markets soon.
What pumpkin product are you most likely to try or buy?
