![]() The unfortunate state of mainstream media is that controversy and drama sells, and what sells drives your bottom line so people tend to only focus and report on the negative. Athletes tend to be a major focal point of this coverage and it’s unfair to those athletes who are spreading positivity not only to their teammates and fans but to their communities. For instance what do we hear more about Kevin Durant presumably not being a good teammate and getting into fights with fans over social media or... the fact that he has built well over 20 basketball and tennis courts in inner cities around the country and devotes substantial time and resources to youth around the globe through his Kevin Durant Charity Foundation?
Because of this when I read stories about professional athletes paying it forward for good causes I love it. I just read an article on https://vegnews.com/ about DeAndre Jordan, who is an investor in Beyond Meat (Check out my Products page for links to buy), showing up at a Dunkin’ for the release of their Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich. DeAndre has been a vegan for years now and has become an advocate for it and spreads his vegan message whenever he gets the chance. He has volunteered his time to speaking out for veganism and is part of the Beyond Meat “Go Beyond” campaign which promotes the athletes that have both invested in the company as well as become a driving force in the vegan community. This list includes Kyrie Irving, Shaquille O’Neal, Chris Paul, Victor Oladipo, JaVale McGee, Harrison Barnes, Luke Walton, DeAndre Hopkins, Malcolm Jenkins, Derrick Morgan, Lindsey Vonn, Alex Honnold, and Shaun White. These are the types of stories we don’t hear about in the media, the stories that highlight these larger than life figures taking their time to support the causes they believe in. The list of vegan athletes continues to grow seemingly daily as people are starting to realize it’s not just a diet but a way of life.
