First off I love waking up every day and seeing the fast food giants not only offering more vegan options but also offering substitutes to the products that made them what they are today. The latest news on this topic was from Taco Bell...
which recently added vegan meat to its menu which it plans to release and test in Spain. Burger King, which had a hugely successful trial run with its Impossible Whopper, along with a slow moving but moving none the less McDonalds, Carl’s Jr., Chipotle, and Del Taco are just a few of the big names that have started to produce and offer vegan meat whether organically or through partnerships with Impossible Burger or Beyond Meat.
I am fortunate to live around the McDonald’s headquarters in Chicago so I get to taste many of the international menu items. I have had the veggie burger for instance which was ok, but it’s still fast food and McDonald’s you know? Since Beyond Meat and the Impossible Burger are so good and taste so similar to real beef I think the options hitting the market at fast food chains will be better but I think we all need to understand that these are still fast food joints. You’ll still get the sloppy dressings and wet buns and condiments tossed on there so just keep an open mind. If you got to Umami Burger for instance those burgers are amazing but that’s a higher end fast casual dining chain. Regardless I am excited to try all of these vegan options and if Burger Kings trial run was any indication I think these menu items are going to be a hit and open a lot of people’s eyes.
