Does anyone on earth have a clear and concise vision of the path the Mets are on during the first year of the Van Wagenen diaries? Does Brodie even know? I think that is debatable, what is also debatable was the thought process the Mets ownership went through while determining that Brodie was the best fit to lead this beloved franchise to the top of the NL East.
I get it sometimes you want to make a splash or even think outside of the box but can a Mets franchise afford to do that just 4 years removed from a NL pennant? This fan base had a quick taste of the good life and as loyal as they are I think faith is starting to wane in Queens. On that note are the Mets rebuilding or trying to contend? Does flipping Thor or Wheeler and signing Stroman make you any better next year than this year? That is the most frustrating part of the Van Wagenen regime, you are making moves, big moves for big names, yet they are all confusing as to what your end goal is. If you want to contend in 2020 you need to extend Stroman, and potentially Wheeler, and let Thor continue to figure out his slider and return to his usual self. On top of that why would you flip a guy with a 3.34 ERA over his last 12 starts for a defensive minded backup catcher that will serve as organizational depth? I don’t know, and I feel for Mets fans as you can see there are so many more questions than answers thus far in 2019 but then again these are the Mets so are you surprised?
