Has anyone else seen this story? I love when I see not only kids doing the right thing but kids thinking for themselves and not conforming to the norm or what is expected of them. Apparently 5 students who were enrolled in the FFA (Future Farmers of Americas) did such a thing and it will make your heart melt.
So the story goes when kids are enrolled in the FFA using their own money they purchase animals, food, and the equipment needed to raise these animals with the goal of teaching them about animal agriculture. As a way to recoup the money you spent once the animals are “of age”…How they decide what age is right or not will be something I’ll never understand but let’s put it this way when the program comes to an end the kids then sell the animals at auction in an effort to recoup their investment. The animals are then sent out to slaughter. This year however a group of 5 high school students decided they did not want to send these animals to their death and they didn’t care about the money spent instead they wanted to send their animals to a sanctuary to live out the rest of their lives happily and peacefully. These are the types of stories and people that lead to change, I hope the FFA takes note and offers future members of the FFA the option to do the same. As members of the Vegan community we all need to applaud stories such as these.
