I came across an article the other day that said according to a recent study by a team of sociologists at Brigham Young and Ball State universities fathers today are more engaged with their kids than previous generations. Whether you agree or not I think there a few factors that play a part in this discussion.
First off todays corporate environment is much more flexible so people don’t punch the clock and work a 9-5. Also people are more aware of the rigors of parenthood so managers are more sympathetic to requests to leave early or work from home. Also woman of today work and in many homes are the bread winner so the % of stay at home moms has decreased significantly and most homes are shared parenting. I say all of this because it’s not like men are any different than our fathers we all love our kids unconditionally and maybe yes the whole thought that men need to only provide and discipline has relaxed greatly but there are a lot of other factors that play a part in this study. While I can only speak for my situation I will say that I think a fathers role in the life of their daughter is one of the most crucial there is. The way a man treats his daughter and his wife and the bond that can be built by spending as much time as possible with them builds unbreakable and formative bonds that can extend into all aspects of life. Having both a strong woman and male figure in your life that say they love you and are there for you and care for you will help you become a strong, respectful, independent person. I think this is common sense whether you have a boy or a girl and it’s all about prioritization. Yes we all have bills and we all have pressure and stress from our jobs but all of that pales in comparison to spending time with your child and being there for them through every stage of their lives. Now that I have a beautiful baby girl and know the time and effort to takes to raising a child I applaud all of the parents out there but also all of the fathers that are making the time to be there for their families and support them in all facets of life.
