Morrissey’s mother was vegetarian, and it was from her influence that he became vegetarian at the age of eleven or twelve. Always a lightning rod for media controversy, Morrissey has a knack for stridently expressing his beliefs about animal rights. In 1985 The Smiths released “Meat is Murder,” which became the number 1 album in the U.K. and influenced countless fans to go vegetarian. As someone who promotes animal rights at every turn, Morrissey has been known to forbid his band members from being photographed eating meat. He also insists that his tour venues serve no meat on the nights he performs. A long time PETA supporter, Morrissey has starred in PETA ads and has had his bandmates perform shows outfitted in PETA T-shirts. In 2014, he partnered with PETA on an animated video about factory farmed hens that he featured on his nationwide tour. https://www.vegan.com/morrissey/
